My Soup Addiction

Yes, I have a soup addiction. It's quite strange really. It started out when I was looking for a light, healthy meal to have instead of salad on my diet. There was some soup in the cupboard. And so began... My soup diet.

You see, I've tried to be a salad person, but I'm just not. I have to add lots of yummier, more unhealthy things for it to interest me. And then, I still sit there eating it with the facial expression of a martyr. So thus begins my love affair with soup. A small bowl of soup with some wholemeal toast to dunk in it. I've turned down my favourite, the ubiquitous cream of tomato for healthier versions with some protein, so that they make a good meal substitute.

Carrot and lentil, spiced Moroccan chickpea, lightly spiced roasted squash and sweet potato... (The last one was my favourite, mmmm). And the funny thing is, as long as I don't go crazy and eat healthily for breakfast and lunch, it's working! I've lost weight in just a week of doing this!

So now, I'm a girl on a mission.

Step One: Buy a blender in Spain.

Step Two: Invent, find recipes and make my own, healthier soups.

Step Three: Use lots of vegetables and experiment with beans and pulses. Just don't add cream!

So wish me luck and I shall keep you posted about how it goes!

My Week

This week has been a hectic one. I did a few days of my work experience at the primary school, then promptly got ill with a weird bug, and had to miss my last few days. I'm thinking I ought to go in one day soon with some yummy baked goods to say thank you and goodbye. This one looks yummy:

My Spanish kits arrived in the post, so I bought myself a little notebook and some cute heart, flower and butterfly post it notes to start learning!

I also visited family yesterday, which was a nice day out. My grandfather told me stories about when he lived in the Ugandan jungle as a child and saw gorillas in the wild.

And I have been planning a super secret trip. Next spring, Michael and I have a week off, and it'll be our first (short) trip away as a married couple :) He knows we're going away, but I have been scheming places to go to, and I want to keep the destination a surprise. So, I can't let you know where we're going, but plans are afoot!

Exhaustion

I am exhausted. Quite literally, run off my feet! I've been doing my work experience this week with year 6s, (a.k.a. the "difficult" ages), before I return to teach in Spain, come September. And they are a nightmare class! I feel bad about saying this about children, and some truly are lovely. But a vast majority are impossible to work with!

I am also feeling a little sour, since Michael will be going to teach in Chelmsford for a month, leaving this Saturday, and I won't be able to join him for a few weeks. Which feels like an insurmountable time apart.

Hence, I haven't updated this blog as often as I should have, and will have to post more this weekend, to make up for it!

I hope you have all had lovely weeks though. Bring on the weekend!

My Week

Things I have been up to this week;

1) Missing Michael. Although I have finished my degree, Michael is still completing his PGCE course and is back and forth from London and Chelmsford. He was recently away for three days, so I have been mooching around until he came home again. (Yay!).

2) Visited my Babcia and Dziadzia. (Grandparents). I learnt how to make pierogi, which are a kind of pasta dumpling with a cheese and potato filling. Sounds weird, but yummy.

3) Looked at lots of bunnies and wanted one very badly. I filled up my phone memory with photos of them, and managed to name quite a few before I was cruelly dragged away.

4) Arranged some work experience at my old Junior school. I have a meeting with the head the week after half term to confirm details, but then hopefully I can check this item off my summer list!

5) Reading. It is so so nice to read for pleasure once again. I've read the latest in the Sookie Stackhouse series, Dead Reckoning, (great, but finished on a cliffhanger, which yet again will leave me hanging for another year!) Then I read Angelology, which was amazing, and will also have a sequel, and a movie. I also read God is a Rabbit, drawn in by the title.

Now I am about to start David Mitchell's latest title, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, which looks intriguing, and I loved Cloud Atlas, so I have high hopes for this one. I have not yet finished The Hare with Amber Eyes either, preferring to read it in small increments. The reason for this being here: http://miarabbit.blogspot.com/2011/05/beautiful-book.html.

And that has been my week!
